from an evolving collection entitled Sun Lake Moon

One’s eyes

need not roll back in prophecy

to ‘see’.

One’s snout

need not be angled into the wind

to smell blood.

One’s spirit

need not travel through night air

like a silent hunting owl

to discern fateful betrayals, blackmail, treason.

One’s ears

need not be finely-tuned

to hear the dying children of Yemen.
