With the high clouds

hugging close to the treetops

the pine and spruce

hugging close to the mountain

the hawk and osprey

hugging close to upper branches

the starling and wren

hugging close to lower branches

the red-wing blackbird

hugging tight to the swaying cattail stalk

and the deer hugging close

to the mist of the high grass meadow

it would seem

we are the only ones

who have forgotten

the way of holy embrace.
